In 2005 OxBrum members joined a quarter of a million people marching in Edinburgh to make poverty history. The atmosphere was incredible! And world leaders seemed to listen. They made promises about debt relief and aid. They pledged $50 billion more aid, debt cancellation for 42 countries and free HIV and AIDS treatment for all by 2010.
Two years later, despite some progress made, we have found out that world leaders are not keeping their promises. We want to tell them that the world can’t wait. Because of their lack of commitment, 5 million children and women are not accessing the anti retrovirals they need to survive and could die.
We want to tell the G8 that the world can’t wait for them to take action and keep the promises made in 2005.
So what are you waiting for? Get involved and give us your voice! In the next two weeks we are recording messages from people from Birmingham for G8 leaders. The messages will be collated into a podcast, and you (and G8 leaders too!) will be able to listen to them on this blog. Come on, what are you waiting for? Whether you fancy singing, reciting or mc-ing, give your message to the G8, give your voice against poverty!

I don’t see a lot of change since those promises were made in 2005. It all seems like lip service is being paid to this by the politicians of this world.
It is about time the G8 kept its promise, and act to
abandon the debt on 3rd world and developing countries and fight poverty with fair trade
Come on guys now is the time to make things happen, tomorrow is too late
