OxBrum, the Birmingham Oxfam Group is a self-governing volunteer group based in the community of Birmingham. Guided by Oxfam’s extensive overseas experience, we work with the people of Birmingham to advocate and win change which will help overcome poverty and suffering.
Our group actively campaigns by communicating with and informing local government and key decision makers. The group operates on five levels:
- To promote the work and ideals of Oxfam.
- To inform the Birmingham community about the problems affecting those who live in poverty, and how these issues can be addressed.
- To write to and occasionally visit local MPs and decision makers to discuss these issues.
- To be part of a national network and work in association with other organisations, aiming to persuade the UK government and other important organisations to consider the needs of the majority world.
- To bring about change at an worldwide level as part of an international coalition of agencies.
