TELL THE G8 THAT THE WORLD CAN’T WAIT!
During the G8 Summit in Gleaneagles in 2005 world leaders promised to make poverty history. They promised debt relief for 40 countries, an increase in annual levels of aid of $50 bn and HIV and AIDS treatment for all by 2010.
2 years later, 24 developing countries are still waiting for debt relief; the global level of aid has actually dropped and the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS is under resourced.
We must make sure that world leaders keep their promises and take action, because the world can’t wait. If they don’t speed up in delivering what they promised, by 2010 5 million lives could be lost because of HIV and AIDS.
Shout out about it! Give your voice against poverty and join thousands of campaigners who are gathering in London by the river Thames on 2nd June 2007. We will be giving a good send off to Tony Blair before he heads off to the G8 in Germany. And we will remind him that promises must be kept!

In 2000 United Nations Member States have pledged to meet 8 main targets:
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote gender equality and empower women
- Reduce child mortality
- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Develop a global partnership for development
In order to achieve them, Oxfam is campaigning for 4 million doctors and nurses and 2 million teachers for developing countries. Oxfam is asking rich and poor countries to work together to make health and education for all a reality.
